Founder of ArtArmor, Oleksandr Kovalchuk, presents to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) an icon of St. John the Warrior, painted on a ballistic plate.

The founder of the ArtArmor project, Oleksandr Kovalchuk, has handed over to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) an icon of St. John the Warrior, painted by the icon painter Andriy Okhotsky, “for eternal safekeeping and in memory”, as reported on the ArtArmor project’s Facebook page.

The icon was painted by the icon painter Andriy Okhotsky on a ballistic plate that saved the life of a warrior who defends Ukraine on the front lines,” representatives of the project write.

According to them, this “work of spirituality and art” was consecrated by Archimandrite Lavrentiy (Zhivchik), the dean of the St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Male Monastery, where the injured sought refuge during the Euromaidan protests.

Prayers to St. John the Warrior, according to popular beliefs, help uncover theft and return stolen goods. Symbolically, the icon of this saint will be with the NABU, whose main goal is to fight corruption!“, the publication of the art project notes.

Oleksandr Kovalchuk, a member of the Ukrainian parliament and founder of the ArtArmor project, personally handed over the icon to representatives of NABU, wishing them to be as resilient as Ukraine in working for its bright future.

Instead of canvases, ArtArmor project uses ballistic plates that have already saved the lives of Ukraine’s defenders.

We believe that they contain the strength and unwavering spirit of the Ukrainian people, who continue to stand strong even amidst the hail of bullets, rocket attacks, and the blows of fate!“, ArtArmor explains the symbolism of their gift.
